April 5 1816: Byron’s Books Sold in Auction

On April 5 1816  Lord Byron’s books are sold at auction. Books signed by His Lordship sell for a higher price. The auction is advertised  as involving a “Collection of books, late of the Property of a Nobleman about to Leave England.” The auction lasts two days. Byron’s books  sell for £723 12s 6d or about £273 more than they had been valued.
