On January 8 1816, Dr. Baillie visits Lord Byron to assess his behaviour. He is doing so at the request of Annabella. Byron is not aware of the purpose for the visit. Annabella has confided to Dr. Baillie her concerns about Byron. She has told him that Byron believes himself to be a “villain” and a “fallen angel”. Dr. Baillie will advise Annabella that it is best that she leave Byron for the time being, but that she should write to him often in a pleasant and non-confrontational fashion in an attempt to calm him.
