November 20 1815: Treaty of Paris

On November 20 1815, the Treaty of Paris is signed. The treaty requires France to pay 700 million francs in indemnities, and diminishes her to the borders she had in 1792. The treaty brings to an end the Napoleonic Wars. On a distant southern sea, waves rise and fall against the barren crags of St Helena.
