January 25 1815: Burns’ Night

Robert Burns was born on January 29 1759. After his death, the custom was established of celebrations being held on the 25th of January to commemorate his birth. In 1815, the poets  Walter Scott  and Jame Hogg organized what is said to be the first big formal Burns’ Night in Edinburgh.
