December 2 1814: Marquis de Sade Dies

On December 2 1814, Marquis de Sade dies in an asylum at Charenton not far from Paris. He had been imprisoned a total of thirty-two years of the seventy-four years that he had lived.

The fist image is from a painting by Franz von Stuck called “Wild Ride”. The second image is Eugène Delacroix’s “Chasse aux lions” (1854). The third image is a “Portrait de la comtesse de Castiglione, assise sur une table, le visage en partie coupé” from around 1865 to 1867. These were shown at a de Sade exhibition at the musée d’Orsay and can be found here.
