October 26 1814: Swelled Hand

Lord Byron s Works ... George Gordon Byron Baron Byron Google Books

Wednesday October 26th 1814: Got up with a swelled hand and aching arm –
suspicious of cursed tetanus. Had my meal cut for me. At night, notwithstanding
poultices, I got worse – called up my sisters, &c., and took laudanum. Not a little
frightened to say the truth – thought my jaw stiff.

— John Cam Hobhouse, October 26 1814.
